Microsoft Office 2007 custom colour theme transfer or sharing

This took quite a lot of searching to figure out so i thought i’d share it incase anyone else has the same problem.

I created a custom colour theme in Word on my pc, but also wanted to be able to use this colour theme on Word (or Excel, Powerpoint, etc.) on my laptop.

The colour theme files are kept in the Application Data folder, change my username for yours below and that’s where they are.

C:\Documents and Settings\Matthew Wood\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\Document Themes\Theme Colors

You can then copy any of the XML files there into the corresponding folder on any of your other computers and use them!

Hope this saves someone else a lot of searching

To open a command prompt in the folder you are currently viewing in explorer, simply hold down shift while right clicking on or in the folder, then select the menu item “Open command window here”.

Simple as that!

remap @ and ” keys on mac os x

Something that’s bugged me for a while and i haven’t been able to find a decent solution to is that the usb keyboard that i use with my mac mini has a standard UK key layout that doesn’t match up with what leopard thinks it should be. Consequently whenever i typed me e-mail address i ended up with ” instead of @.

An easy solution had avoided me until i managed to find this file http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/25957&vid=186195

This file changes the layout the keyboard so that it behaves like every other UK keyboard. Changed characters: @ ” \ | # ~ Â£
How to install:
1. Unzip archive
2. Copy UK.keylayout to /Library/Keyboard Layouts
3. Logout and back in
4. Go to System Preferences/International/Input Menu
5. Scroll down half-way to UK, check 6. Scroll back to top, uncheck previous setting Done.

Troubleshooting
If you can’t do step 6) above, check “Show input menu in menu bar” and choose the UK layout manually using the input menu. If the setting will not stick, try checking “Use one input source in all documents” and login again.

Another mac related keyboard gripe i recently had was swapping the mac button and the control button around so my windows based ctrl + key shortcuts worked. This was a tad simpler to fix

1. Go to System Preferences/Keyboard and Mouse
2. In the keyboard tab click modifier keys
3. then change Control (^) Key: to ⌘ Command and Command (⌘) Key: to ^ Control

Sorted.

Now if i could just get my home and end keys working…
